Regretfully, the non-Iraqi staff of JumpStart International left on October 26th in response to the deteriorating condition in the country.
The recent kidnapping of Iraqi Margaret Hassan of Care International highlights the insane extent to which terrorists and "insurgents" will go to try to destabilize progress. Despite the efforts of the Iraqi police, the Iraqi National Guard, the average decent and moral Iraqi, and the other forces for stability and progress in the country, it has become too dangerous for unarmed civilian workers from other countries to travel in Iraq and attempt to help Iraqis looking to advance their lives and the stability of the country.
Operations will continue with Iraqi staff, who are the staff with the greatest responsibility for building their own country and helping their countrymen. It is a challenging time for all workers, who hope for peace and prosperity and freedom over the forces of instability, intimidation, corruption, and death. With freedom comes accountability and responsibility. It is in the hands of the Iraqis to choose their preferred form of life, and each Iraqi makes this decision every day on all sides of this conflict. Choose life.
JumpStart will try to continue providing JumpStart Iraq with financial assistance and operational advice for continuing humanitarian operations.
