JumpStart’s International headquarter staff visited sites in the southern town of Rafah, where the organization is considering clearance and reconstruction projects, including the renovation of Rafah’s sole public arena, which was damaged during clashes.
The renovation project estimated at $30,000 will employ 20 workers for a period of three months. The arena that has a seating capacity for between 400 and 500 used to host public events such as musical performances, book fairs, and civic and sporting activities.
Rafah has a population of 150,000 and an unemployment rate as high as 70 percent. A total of 64 percent of the population is registered as refugees.
