JumpStart International headquarter staff visited the site earmarked for the construction of the Gaza Polytechnic Institute near Khan Younis, a city in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. The nine-hectare site will accommodate the Institute’s building and campus facilities that will serve over 3,000 students. Curriculum at the Institute will focus on continuing education and 2-3 year associate level programs designed to meet internationally recognized standards in applied science and engineering in specialized training in technology fields to prepare a skilled workforce to compete effectively for jobs in new and growing industries in Gaza and Palestine.
The construction project also aims to provide significant employment and training opportunities in the area estimated to have an unemployment rate as high as 60 percent.
The project will be carried out in cooperation with the Community College of Applied Arts and Technology (CCAST), a private school located in Gaza City. On the completion of the project, CCAST, which has limited resources for growth, will be responsible for the institute’s daily operations.
