Rasheed Camp Master Project
Before the war in Iraq, Rasheed Camp consisted of an expansive military base almost 1/3 the size of Manhattan able to house up to 200,000 soldiers. A year after the war ended, however, the area had been transformed by extensive looting from an endless campus of buildings to a wasteland of leftover building scraps. JumpStart's work in the area began in April of 2004 and consisted mainly of clearing and cleaning the buildings and grounds. Other projects for this site included: numerous clearance projects for 12 sq. kilometers of buildings, building housing projects, running a technical trades school to teach building trades to unskilled laborers, and running factories to supply building materials for the JumpStart construction projects throughout the Rasheed Camp and Baghdad.
